Global Invasive Species Team listserve digest #045 Mon, 11 Oct 1999 18:47:44 -0700 (PDT) --CONTENTS-- 1. 1998-99 Weed Survey Analyses have been mailed! --------------------------------------- 1. 1998-99 Weed Survey Analyses have been mailed! From: Barry Rice (bamrice(at)ucdavis.edu) During 1998-1999, the Wildland Weeds Management & Research Program conducted a national weed survey. We asked as many TNC preserve managers as possible to contribute to our survey database. From their responses, we obtained a good snapshot of TNC's weed threats/problems and the management practices being used against them. We have now completed the initial analysis of the data. As many of you know, we have distributed reports from the survey to every preserve that participated. (Check your mailboxes for bulging envelopes!) We prepared different types of survey reports, including... 1) Species weed reports--all the data reported on a single species. 2) Animal pest reports--all the data on a single type of animal pest. 3) State weed woes--summaries of a state's weed problems. 4) State weed reports--similar to the above, but designed for Directors of Science/Stewardship (i.e. less hands-on data, more financial data). We encourage you to study the weed surveys to learn about how other people are fighting the same weeds you are. Use the provided contact information to talk with other weed-warriors, to pool your knowledge, and share your experiences. Review the Weed Woe reports we provided for the states adjoining yours. Pay attention to weeds that you do not have, but which your neighbors have reported as being very bad. These weeds may soon appear in your ecosystem. I have posted some information regarding the weed survey on our website. In particular, http://tncweeds.ucdavis.edu/survey.html -- main page on the survey http://tncweeds.ucdavis.edu/survey/wlist.html -- an all-survey weedlist http://tncweeds.ucdavis.edu/survey/alist.html -- animal pest list http://tncweeds.ucdavis.edu/survey/sent.html-- look here if you are wondering who in your state we sent reports to. If we overlooked you, please contact us or (even better) staff in your state who were sent survey reports. I apologize in advance, but we only have resources to send these reports to TNC staff. Our database is in MS Access, which allows reports to be produced as hardcopy only (i.e. emailing them is not an option) |
