Global Invasive Species Team listserve digest #042 Fri, 17 Sep 1999 17:27:43 -0700 (PDT) --CONTENTS-- 1. Does the weeds listserve and web site help? 2. Weed-eating goats --------------------------------------- 1. Does the weeds listserve and web site help? From: Beth Duris (bduris(at)tnc.org) Beth Duris (Home office) contacted me and said she is writing a piece for the Natural Assets newsletter. This time the theme is Information Systems. She was wondering if anyone on this list has a nice anecdote about how the weed listserve or web site has been helpful to site managers. Contact her--it will make me look good -- Barry :) --------------------------------------- 2. Weed-eating goats From: Brian Martin (bmartin(at)tnc.org) I recently attended a workshop in which goats were highlighted as an outstanding control mechanism for spotted knapweed. Is there a history of using goats as a mechanical control of noxious weeds on any of our preserves or in our project areas? Most of western Montana's grasslands are now dominated by spotted knapweed and sulfur cinquefoil making chemical control less of an option. Any information appreciated on reduction to weeds and damage to non-target species. |
